‘Making tea with effort’
We’re fortunate to have filmed and photographed weddings all over the world. It’s exciting to see how different faiths and cultures celebrate the coming together of two people and their families – from reciting vows, to walking around the sacred fire, exchanging rings to giving tea. We feel proud and privileged to capture these special moments.
Jacqueline & Tat, together with their close family and friends from Hong Kong, flew to a beautiful location in Thailand to celebrate their wedding.
Destination weddings are enjoyable and creatively rewarding, but at the same time present many challenges even before we press the record button on our cameras – time difference, extreme heat, limited face to face meetings, flights, equipment restrictions, language barriers, the list continues…
We were grateful to have met Mambo, a cool photographer based in Phuket. Together with his wife Sam, they helped us find some great scenic locations, assistance with the local area and take us to enjoy some excellent Thai food (when we weren’t shooting of course!). We’re thankful for your assistance and friendship and look forward to meeting you in the UK soon!
Back to the wedding itself – Jacqueline is an experienced event planner for her firm in Hong Kong, so upon arriving at the hotel to meet for the first time, we were handed their official 20 page glossy ‘wedding deployment pack’, with each stage of the wedding planned and detailed to absolute perfection!
The fun and games began when Tat (the groom) arrived with his best men at Jacqueline’s villa, where they were tasked to dress up in comical outfits and read a story to Jacqueline – and this was all upon entering the door! It was apparent that more fun was to follow throughout the day.
On our approach to the ceremony area by the beach, we picked up on the importance of imagery and memories as we came across old family photos hung from a makeshift washing line with wooden pegs and Fuji Instax cameras ready for guests to capture moments from their seats. With the sound of the waves and the sun slowly setting, they recited their vows and declared their ever-lasting love. I think at this point even Sal had a tear in his eye!
With the ceremony over, the doors to the Ballroom swung open to kick off the party, with the night sky lit up by an array of fireworks and sparklers. Countless dance offs and wine drinking challenges ensued!
We had an absolute pleasure creating this special wedding film at the Renaissance Phuket luxury resort. Jacqueline & Tat were very supportive throughout and shared our creative vision – right up to the point when we had to rush them down to the beach to grab one final quadcopter couple shot before the sun disappeared. It was all worth it!
(Oh and the job offer still stands Jacqueline, anytime you wish to help plan our shoots!)
