Throughout my career I’ve been fortunate to have photographed and filmed some of the most famous international stars of our generation.

Shahrukh Khan is right up there and considered to be one of the biggest film stars in cinematic history, with a fan following claimed to number in the billions!  It was a true honour to have been asked to capture this rare appearance of ‘King Khan’ at the amazingly new CSN International, in my home city of Birmingham.  Whilst not a huge fan of Bollywood, I’ll be the first to confess to being a massive fan of Shah Rukh – so this evening was going to be a real treat!

I first caught the SRK bug on my second visit to Mumbai back in 1995.  At that time Shahrukh was very much still settling into the film industry, but all over the city you would see his face adorning the billboards and TV channels.  Nearly 18 years on, he’s still the only reason I’ll pay to watch a Bollywood movie at the cinema.  Songs from the films that he has starred in feature at practically all the Indian/Asian weddings we shoot at!  Brand SRK has gone on to become a true global megastar… and here he was in the heart of Birmingham’s famous Balti Triangle, Sparkhill.

The 800+ guests at the CSN were treated to a superb night which included a sumptuous three course meal from Chana Catering, live performances from Bhangra stars to Bollywood dancers and the main attraction of course being Shahrukh Khan, who spent more than an hour on stage answering questions from the crowd and wooing them with his signature film dialogues and moves.  The evening was hosted by the lovely Noreen Khan from BBC Asian Network.

For this shoot we had a four person team covering photography and video, including Rory, Dwiko and Shanilla.  We filmed the entire event using Canon DSLRs.

Supporting Shahrukh Khan on the night were the following celebrities:

We would like to sincerely thank Maz Iqbal from CSN for his assistance throughout the evening and for inviting the SalShan team to the event.

Over the 2012 Spring Bank Holiday weekend, we were involved with no less than FIVE separate wedding events for our next couple, Natasha & Harprit.  This included the Maiyan, Bride’s side Pre-Wed Party, Groom’s side Pre-Wed Party, Sikh Wedding Ceremony, whilst the final day involved us covering the Civil Wedding and Reception.  Phew!

SalShan Photo & Cinema specialise in covering multiple-event weddings, and this was one of our biggest yet.  Did I mention that we also did a pre-wed couple shoot earlier in the year for them too?  That makes it six separate outings (I’m running out of fingers!)

Having sampled the fun and games of their pre-wed parties, we knew when it came to the main reception, held at the prestigious Dunchurch Park, Natasha & Harprit’s family and friends would ‘go hard’ so to speak.  Being involved with many Sikh and Punjabi weddings over the past four years, N&H’s reception party has to rank very high up there in terms of dancefloor madness!  As soon as the cake was cut, the floor opened to the crowd and remained packed and energised until the DJs could spin their tracks no more!  DJs Raju & Harv from Kudos did a fab job.

It was a great honour to have covered their Sikh Wedding Ceremony at Central Gurdwara – Khalsa Jatha, which stands as the oldest established Sikh place of worship in Europe.  This beautiful, traditional Gurdwara is located within Kensington, London and is over 100 years old!  In typical British fashion, it rained for most of the morning, but the sun came out to play just in time for the couple photo-shoot!

Techie stuff:  This was our very first wedding using the brand spanking new Canon EOS C300 camcorder.  A few of the shots made it into the short film, but in general it was used as a spare camera set up on the side, to enable us to get an idea of what it was capable of.  At first glance, the incredible 1080p footage certainly looks ah-maze-ing… time will tell if we fully integrate the camera within our already five-star setup.

Congratulations to Harprit & Natasha and their families & friends
